Yesterday’s Central Statistics Office (CSO) Business Impact of COVID-19 survey showed a modest improvement in conditions in August, with two-thirds of companies operating at normal capacity but 17% still seeing revenues down over 50% and 12% loss making. Brexit and fears of a second lockdown are key concerns, but a fall in firms availing of the wage subsidy scheme from 47% in July to 40% in August suggests that underlying conditions are gradually improving.
