Ireland’s main incumbents set to form the next government

DAVY VIEW

With counting for the last 12 seats soon to conclude, the general election in Ireland has seen a decisive result in favour of the two main incumbent parties. Fianna Fáil outperformed the exit poll and will be the largest party with c.28% of seats likely, ahead of Fine Gael and Sinn Féin on c.22-23% each. Government formation talks will soon commence and a new Programme for Government is expected by early 2025.
