Tonight’s EU Council Meeting may take a tough line but will probably suggest trade negotiations continue to end-October despite Boris Johnson’s empty threat to walk away from the talks. Fishing, level playing field provisions and state aid still seem to be stumbling blocks, so an extension of the transition period may still be required, even if a deal is secured, to allow time for ratification.
