After a 15-year career as CEO of first BA (and before that CEO of Aer Lingus) and then International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG), Willie Walsh will retire on June 30th. Walsh has built IAG into a portfolio consisting of unique operating companies, from full-service long haul to low-cost short haul carriers, each targeting specific customer needs and geographies. It has amongst the highest returns of any network airline and is, in effect, a cash machine, having returned €4.1bn to shareholders since 2015. We wish him well.
