Phase I Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) clearance is an important milestone with respect to Flutter Entertainment’s (Flutter) acquisition of The Stars Group (TSG). Alongside Australia, the UK had been identified as a jurisdiction where the proposed combination was likely to be heavily scrutinised. As such, the company has successfully navigated another potential obstacle. The deal remains subject to approval from authorities in a small number of additional jurisdictions as well as shareholders of both companies. However, a successful outcome in relation to these could lead to deal completion as early as Q2.
