Central banks grappling with stagflationary pressures

A busy schedule of data releases this week includes central bank meetings in the US and UK. Expectations for US economic growth and inflation have moved in a decidedly stagflationary direction so far in 2025. This is likely to curtail the ability of the Federal Reserve to ease policy. High wage growth and services inflation are also curtailing the Bank of England’s ability to reduce Bank Rate despite a relatively weak economic backdrop of late.
