Below-consensus inflation in September

While UK consumer price inflation remained high last month, it was softer than expected across a broad range of goods and services. This follows last week’s labour market data which also provided a dovish signal for the Bank of England, and forward-looking signals point to a resumption of both wage and price disinflation into 2026. As a result, we think a cut to Bank Rate in December is now increasingly likely.
